Guinea pig are small friendly pets. They can vary in size and colour but they need similar care. They are perfect pets for kids because its easy to handle and rarely bite.

Feeding – Due to fact that guinea pig cannot produce their own vitamin C , their food needs to be rich in vitamins. Grass can offer a lot of vitamins but this needs to be along fresh greens, beetroot, cauliflower, cucumber and many more vegetables. Adding to all of this they need dry food and fresh hay. All of them can be bought from grocery stores and pet shops.
Handling- All new guinea pigs will be nervous first time in a new home so please let them settle first and try not to handle them as much. Trust must be created between them and you , and this requires time and patience. Don’t corner them and let them come to you step by step by offering them some food and be patient. They will eventually come to you and will notice that after a while they will feel safe and will cuddle and sleep in your lap .
Guinea pig will need nail clipping witch can be difficult and stressful for them and for you. You need to be as gentle as possible and don’t rush. Try can cut them bit by bit to make sure you don’t cut the nail vein, but if this happens just bandage the area until bleeding stops. If you are not feeling comfortable doing it just book an appointment with the vet.
Bathing is just a couple times a year and this needs to be done carefully and safely. Don’t have a lot of water in the sink or tub, just enough to be under their belly. Gently water them and shampoo them making sure no water gets in their eyes and ears. Carefully rinse them and after gently cover them with a towel making sure their head is not covered. Gently wipe them with the towel and carefully blow dry them.
